Government Shutdown Means Some Moms Are Short on Formula

The government shutdown is no doubt affecting thousands of families — 800,000 workers are on furloughs — but some moms who rely on government assistance for baby formula are feeling the short shrift, after the federal Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children was suspended. According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, the government agency has stopped issuing the federal vouchers for baby formula, so moms who didn't pick up their vouchers before the shutdown don't know how they're going to feed their babies once they finish their formula supplies.
